Murali Kaniyath, Project Manager at Zodiac Light Waves Inc.
Tell me what the Project Manager role is all about.
The role is A to Z. So I am involved in every project and help design all of the systems from scratch, ensure it is ready before quoting the customer, and then prepare it for installation.
How long have you worked at Zodiac?
I started in March of 2019.
What do you like the most about your job?
Every day is different and I like the challenges that come with it.
Zodiac is one of the most innovative companies in Ottawa, so being able to work there is really nice.
I also really like that I have a free hand to do the system designs at the beginning and work with the installers to complete the project on time.
What has working at Zodiac taught you?
I was a Communications Specialist before doing wireless communications, so I have learned a lot about networking after coming to Zodiac.
What has been your favourite project at Zodiac?
Every project is different so I like all the ones I have done so far, but the Riverstone was great because it was a complete system solution.
What words best describe you:
- Detail-oriented/attention to details.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I watch the news, TV, and I play tennis and cricket.
What does true leadership mean to you?
Leadership means you need to be part of a team and see the pluses and minuses of everyone because not every individual is going to be the same.
You need to think of your team as fingers in the sense that one is shorter and one is longer and you need to use them accordingly.
You can’t expect everyone to be the same, you need to take people’s pluses and minuses and work with it. You can’t expect everything from everyone because everyone is different.
Why did you move to Canada?
Before moving to Canada I was a Senior Technical Manager in Dubai.
The primary need to move was the education in Canada for my daughters, so in December of 2013 we settled down in Canada.
